Omega-3's
Polyunsaturated fats are divided mainly into two groups, Omega-3’s and Omega-6’s. It’s important to maintain an appropriate balance of Omega-3’s and Omega-6’s in the diet as these two substances work together to promote health. They mutually participate in the function of the brain and also support normal growth and development. A growing amount of research is showing that both of these essential fatty acids should be present in the diet for a proper balance of good health.
Omega-6’s (Vegetable Oils) are generally available in today’s diets. Omega-3’s on the other hand, are not. Omega-3 Fatty Acids can’t be appreciably produced by our bodies, and the intake of this essential fatty acid is often low in our diets. This typical deficiency, however, can be remedied by increasing the intake of Omega-3 through the fortification of food products.
